To keep your clothes always looking as good as new, you need to take good care of them. This means that you will ensure to treat every garment as required. These are simple tips that may at times go unnoticed but they go a long way to maintain the good appearance of our garments. They include:-
- Do not use the same garment regularly or daily for this will lead to faster wear and tear. Like shoes, the garments need to be given allowance to gain shape and look fresh again.
- Ones you remove the cloth, ensure to put it away nicely.
- If still clean and can be worn again, make sure you air it before hanging it back on the closet.
- If a sweater, air it then fold it neatly to fit in your drawers.
- If the garment is dirty and has to be put aside for washing, ensure that it does not have food stains that can attract insets that will eat up your garment thus destroying it. If any, to pre-spot and remove the stain before putting it away in the laundry basket.
- Wash the garments as per the instructions on the care label. If your garment does not have a care label use cold water to wash for hot water wears out fabrics more quickly. You can only use hot water on heavily stained clothes.
- Sort the clothes grouping then in clusters depending on color, type of materials and the fastness of the color. Do not mixes the bright colored with the colored ones for this can lead to discoloration of some.
- Wash your clothes turned inside out. This will help protect the embellishments on your garments.
- Do not put too much detergents wile washing. Detergents will react to loosen the dirt and if in excess will weaken the fabric thus contributing to its wear and tear. Just enough detergent will also help save your time, energy and resources for you will not need to rinse over and over again.
- Air the garment according to the instructions on the care label. This is necessary because there are some materials that will lose shape if hanged or will lose color if aired on the sun for a long time.
- Ones dry iron them at the right temperature before you put them back in the closet. For the materials that don’t need ironing, fold them and put them away neatly.
- Ensure that your closet is properly arranged keeping the seasonal clothes away depending on what you will need more. Crowding clothes in your closet will lead to wrinkles. This will require ironing again thus wastage of time and leads to wear and tear.
- Never hang wet or damp clothes in your closet. The dampness will attract mildew which is of health hazard.
- Never store your clothes in plastic bags in your closet. This will trap in humidity which will lead to dampness and thus attract mildew.
